Fan Question: How Do You Create Your Set Lists?

As many of you know, The Spirit of Rush is a very fan-oriented band. After all, we couldn't do what we do without you! The fans give us energy and motivation every day.

Soooo, we thought we'd answer some fan questions, starting with this one: How do you create your set lists?

As you can imagine, a LOT of factors go into creating a set list:

If we've never played a venue before, we tend to play more recognizable Rush songs to test the audience's appetite for Rush. The next time we play that venue, we start throwing in the deeper tracks. :-)

We also consider things like what we haven't played for a while, if there's a special Rush occasion like an album anniversary, and what songs we're loving in the moment. All four of us toss in suggestions!

Sometimes we take fan requests, too. I say “sometimes” because while we would love to play every song fans want to hear, equipment might limit us on some tunes.

We also enjoy new challenges, so we try to rotate in new material as often as we can. Some Rush songs are harder to learn than others! We might work for a good while on a new song, but we never let it be stressful.

The order of the set list is complex as well. We have to consider instrument changes, pace, flow, and endurance.

There you have it! A little insight into our set list creation. We hope you've enjoyed the results!

Feel free to submit your question in the comments and we'll make sure to answer it in future posts.

Until next time, Rush on!

Cheers,

Vicki
