Wow! We are still reeling from the incredible night we had on June 26 at Madlife Stage and Studios in Woodstock, GA.
We have been wanting to shoot professional video of The Spirit of Rush for years, but you know how life goes. Between practices, shows, t-shirt ordering, planning set lists, and all of the other logistics it takes to put on our live performances, we never found the time.
Recently, a fellow musician recommended we do the filming at Madlife, a beautiful venue with a full mixing studio. Since our fans had been begging us to play there for years, we signed right up!
As we loaded our equipment into the venue on show night, excitement bubbled up as we watched the crew display our logos on the big screens.
We expected that some of our fans would come out on a Wednesday night to be part of the historic video shoot. What we didn't expect, however, was for so many to come!
When we stepped out onto the stage to the 2001 movie theme song, we were treated to a sold-out crowd of wonderful, enthusiastic RUSH fans. We opened the show with Limelight, then greeted the fans. We explained we were making a video and that we'd love to hear their voices! But really, we didn't have to ask. They cheered and clapped and showed their joy. It gave us so much energy!
We also explained that we may have to yell “cut!” from time to time for the sake of the video. :-)
As the show rolled on with songs like Subdivisions, Red Sector A, and Freewill, the love of the music flowed back and forth between us and the crowd. The Madlife crew did an amazing job with the sound mix, and they were awesome to work with. (See set list below)
We only called “cut” once when Vicki had a brief technical issue with her in-ear pack, but within seconds we were back on track. The crowd seemed to enjoy being part of the video production!
At the end of the show, we played our last song, Xanadu. But our wonderful fans didn't want us to leave quite yet! At the end of the song they were on their feet and shouting for more. We were happy to oblige, so we blasted out a medley of Working Man fused with Bytor and the Snowdog!
The roar of the crowd filled our ears as we waved farewell and thanked everyone for their incredible support.
It is a night we will never forget! Mixing the footage will take some time, but we are so glad that this super special show was captured on video. We cannot express our gratitude enough for so many fans coming out mid-week to be a part of our history.
