Grace under pressure. A phrase we all need these days. And the name of one of Spirit of Rush's favorite Rush albums!
This amazing record celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, and Rush honored the occasion with a new box set featuring a mix by none other than Terry Brown!
All the GUP talk has got me thinking about the songs and their personal meaning.
During COVID's peak, our band performed the entire Grace Under Pressure album live from our garage. It was so special to do this for fans from around the globe who were badly craving live music, and it meant the world to us as well.
We all love this record for so many reasons, from Alex Lifeson's soaring guitar work to its sometimes heavy but much-needed societal messages.
Between the Wheels is one of my top five favorite Rush songs. During the pandemic, Reese was kind enough to teach me to play it on guitar, including the solo! It was a proud moment when I finally mastered it enough to record myself. My version was nowhere near Reese's, but it was fun and uplifting during a difficult time.
Oddly enough, GUP took some time to grow on me when I first heard it, likely because of its dark feel. And Afterimage hits harder now that we've lost Neil. But over time, I developed a deep appreciation for every song. I can't imagine life without a single one of them.
At our upcoming show on March 29 at Madlife in Woodstock, GA, we'll celebrate our love for GUP with a couple of deep cuts!
We'd love to hear your thoughts on all things GUP: your favorite song, guitar riff, bass line, drum fill, you name it. Throw your answers in the comments!
And now, I think it's time to put on Kid Gloves, because it makes me smile.
Hope to see you at the show!
