Emotional Acoustic Rush: Our Show at Red Clay

SOR Nation!

Vicki here. How are things in your world? I hope all is well.

This month, I wanted to write about our show at Red Clay Music Foundry in Duluth, GA on May 17. It was an exciting one because we debuted two new songs, and did THREE acoustic tunes!

This whole acoustic Rush thing started quite by accident. Reese was playing in a Mexican restaurant with his friend Sam, who invited me up to sing a few tunes. Reese and I did Limelight while my husband took a little video on his iPhone.

I posted it thinking it would get a few likes. Three days later it had 10,000 views! WOW.

So I posted another video. The same thing happened. Okay, we were getting the message.

At Red Clay, we decided to make it a little more official by doing a mini acoustic set.

We opened the show with A Passage to Bangkok, then transitioned into Circumstances and Freewill. I mean, why not start things out with some butt-kickers! Then it was time to slow things down.

Reese grabbed his acoustic guitar and took a seat on a stool. I moved in closer to him. He counted down and we were off, just the two of us, feeling the emotion of Afterimage, our first acoustic tune. I can hardly describe it! Playing that song stripped down like that really tuned me in to the power of it. And Reese doing the whole mid-section and solo acoustic, well, that just blew my mind. The crowd agreed, because the reaction was fantastic!

Then we continued our duets with Tears, a song we'd never played live before. I remember tuning into every note to get my pitch just right, and most of all, to get the feel. What a powerful song. Some fans told us later that they cried! The whole experience was very moving.

Following that, Casey and Ed rejoined us for The Garden, another brand new tune for us. Part of me couldn't believe I was singing that song. It's one of my favorites because of the deep meaning, the message of hope, and the poignancy of Neil's passing.

Phew! Lots of emotions for sure. When we finished the set, we decided to go full out with One Little Victory! That got everyone rocking again.

We are still shocked to see the degree to which our community is responding to the acoustic Rush. So we're going to keep doing it! In fact, we have a full acoustic set coming up on September 12, a double-bill with grunge tribute band Jeremy Would Let Me Drown, also playing acoustic. So cool! We can't wait.

In the meantime, we hope you can join us at some upcoming shows! Thank you for all of your support. It means the world.
