Fan Question: Rush Origin Stories

Greetings SOR Nation! We hope your day is Rushtastic so far.

It's time for another installment of our Fan Questions series. In our blog here, we answer questions from our beloved fans!

This month's question is…How did everyone in the band first hear Rush?

Vicki: I was at a friend's house whose parents weren't home. Of course that meant lots of teenagers having a party. I headed to the kitchen to get a snack and I heard the most amazing sound coming from the bedroom. Someone was singing “Science like nature must also be tamed.” Bewitched, I wandered in and asked “What IS this music?” It was Rush. I was never the same! You can hear more of my story on the incredible podcast Something for Nothing: A Rush Fancast! https://open.spotify.com/episode/0MRQoTFOTObtCKQQVSoLPe

Ed: In 1979, long before SOR, Ed was in a band. His bandmates were big Rush fans and convinced him to go to the Fox Theater in Atlanta to see Hemispheres show! Thank goodness he said yes. It was one of the most spectacular shows of his life!

Casey: As Ed's son, Casey was exposed to all kinds of amazing music. One day, Ed, Casey, and the family went on a driving trip. Ed popped in the Moving Pictures album. Can you imagine how young Casey felt hearing Tom Sawyer blasting through the car speakers?

Reese: Similarly, Reese's dad had excellent taste in music. Young Reese started playing guitar at age four! One day, his dad put in a cassette of Grace Under Pressure. The guitar work on that album never stopped inspiring Reese. Now he's playing it, and his solos from that record are absolute fan favorites!

Well, there you have it! And if you have a question for The Spirit of Rush, feel free to put it in the comments!

Be well and Rush on!
