Fan Question: What Was the First RUSH Song You Learned to Play Together?

Greetings SOR Nation!

It's time once again for our Fan Question series, and this time we will answer the following: What was the first Rush song you learned to play together?

Answer:

The first song we ever played together was Fly by Night! But we didn't learn how to play it together. Here's the story.

Vicki had met Reese at an open mic night at a pub called the Roswell Tap. The two found much in common with music, primarily that they were both big Rush fans

In November of 2013, they agreed that it would be fun to play a set of Rush at the next jam night, but as Vicki often shares on stage, she said to Reese, “Sure, that would be great, but who are we going to get to play drums and bass?”

Reese answered, “I got a couple of guys.” Those guys were Ed and Casey. Reese had played with them in his band The Reese Boyd Project for a couple of years. (Story continues below photo.)

The following week the four of us show up at the Roswell Tap and having never played all together before, we launched into Fly by Night. We also played A Passage to Bangkok, Limelight, and if memory serves, The Spirit of Radio

After that we had a couple more jams, then decided to officially form the band

When we played our debut show as a band in February of 2014, the first song we played was Anthem!

We hope you've enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Do you have a question you'd like Spirit of Rush to answer? Put it in the comments and we'll do a post! See you back here soon!
