Our R40 Trip Back Through Time!

Hey Rush fans! Vicki here with a recap of a VERY special show.

Because we're not quite right in the head, we always try to come up with new, more challenging shows to put on for you.

This time we may have outdone ourselves. We decided to do an R40 retrospective, but with a twist: we would play a song from every Rush album, including Feedback!

We'd been working out a new tune from Presto anyway, so we thought why not give it a shot. Deciding on the set list wasn't easy because as we often say, all Rush is good Rush. But eventually we settled on our songs and started practicing.

We also decided to, like the R40 shows, play the set in reverse chronological order. The only issue was that this journey would take a while, so we agreed to play it straight through with no break.

On August 22 we returned to the legendary Avon Theater (formerly 37 Main Avondale). We'd played here two or three times before and loved it. There's so much history in this place. Even Elvis played on their stage back in the day!

As I got dressed backstage and played my psyche up song on my headphones, I wondered how all of this madness would turn out.

I needn't have worried. The fans welcomed us with cheers from the moment we stepped on stage. We opened with Headlong Flight, a song about looking back on the adventures of life. How appropriate!

Honestly, the most challenging tunes were the first part of the set, the later Rush. Casey pounded the hell out of the drums for One Little Victory, which is an extremely tricky tune to play. Then we debuted War Paint, and kept the party rolling with Force Ten, Stick It Out, Marathon and more.

After an hour or so, we crossed into Signals, Moving Pictures, and Permanent Waves, then onward through Hemispheres, AFTK, 2112, and so on.

By the time we played Working Man, the energy was off the charts! The fans had been with us all the way! And for good measure, they asked us to stick around for one more song, even though the show had been almost three hours with no intermission. We really do have the best fans EVER!

So we obliged by debuting The Seeker, a Who song off the Feedback album.

What a night! We celebrated birthdays, sang with friends, and watched the air drummers amaze us with their accuracy.

Thanks to our incredible community for your support. And until next time, Rush on!
